Information on Big Picture and Updates_ Bookings May-August
头像 Qkids Teacher 2020-05-15

Please kindly check out the following notification to learn more about bookings for mid-May through August.

Big Picture

Historically booking demand follows waves with peaks; there is a “winter season” in January-February and a  “summer season” in July-August. These peaks in demand correlate with children being home from school for planned, extended breaks. As Qkids has grown, it has come to attract steady year-round interest in attending online lessons, which has meant hundreds of thousands of families requesting Qkids bookings every day even during off-peak season.

Due to school closings this February-April, access to bookings was exceptionally robust as the peak rolled over into a new type of need and demand. But now, many schools are re-opening. As usual, families will be doing the best they can to reduce the emotional and academic burden their children experience at the end of the term. On top of that, we know more families are simplifying their routines because there are many challenges ahead. Practicing social distancing can complicate travel, daily chores and school; plus, getting back to school after a large gap can be very difficult and stressful. Nevertheless, many regions have not re-opened and/or may only tentatively re-open in phases. In other words, there are many predictable factors that would suggest that there will be a consistently lower demand until the next “summer peak”; however, there are also various unpredictable factors that could cause unusual needs and demands for bookings.

Updates

Like usual, families will request less bookings while their children finish the school term. Yet, given the novel circumstances and the region-by-region nature of re-opening and precautions, booking behavior may not follow predictable patterns. It depends on all the factors listed above.

If you find your schedule is empty or low for a week here and there, we invite you to hang in there and watch for on-demand, same day booking requests. A lower schedule most likely reflects the industry right now. Yet, for some, 3-4+ weeks of no/low lessons could reflect a number of other variables [i.e. if you are offering availability for daily slots that are in high demand or when teacher availability is low; if you are available for on-demand requests (same day pop-up invitations); your overall rating with respect to all other eligible Ts for that level/model;  which models you can access from prior training/invitation; whether your account record has been in good standing in 2020].

If you prefer to offer no availability for now and want to wait to post availability later in the summer, we permit requests for extended breaks and can automatically reach out when we know the peak season is approaching. To do so, please make sure your current contract would be active through August and have your coach confirm your request. To clarify, contracts will not be altered, paused or extended based on this option.

If you are missing any mandatory record (approved photo, personal identification number, background check, work experience, post secondary record, credential, TESOL after accepting a Qkids voucher), we are actively implementing instant administrative freezes as cautioned since fall 2019.

As always, thank you all for your commitment. We hope this information helps!

Wishing you all the best,

Qkids Teams
